It’s Not Too Good to be True!

Why is it that charities and community groups are apparently so reluctant to seize the chance of free help from professional companies? Perhaps they think the offer is too good to be true? Well, it isn’t!

We take our social enterprise status very seriously and are always looking for opportunities to “put something back”.

One of the main ways we do this is through a brilliant scheme called ProHelp, run in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire by Business in the Community – the charity of which Prince Charles is President.

The scheme acts like a match-maker, putting charities and voluntary groups in touch with companies prepared to do specific bits of work for free.

Through ProHelp, more than 100 East Midlands businesses provide unpaid support on legal, financial, property and IT issues – and, in the case of Arch Communications, PR and marketing. We have recently been helping the excellent Sporting HEARTS charity in this way.

In 2012 alone, ProHelp support delivered in the East Midlands was worth £300,000. Yet incredibly, another £150,000 of free help pledged by businesses went begging. That’s more than 1,000 hours of untapped expertise.

So if you know a charity, small social enterprise or community group which needs professional help with a project but can’t afford to pay for it, tell them to get in touch with ProHelp on 0115 924 7408.

Let’s face it, not much worth having is free. So why pass up the opportunity?
